Week Two - Pre-Production

This week we will look at the first draft of the script, and make any alterations that we think will make it work better on screen.
We will look at clips from horror films to see how the filmmakers have used light, shadow, camera angles, props, etc. to make the scene scarier.
The group will then split into “departments”, each of which will go through the script with a fine-toothed comb, identifying things that they will need for the shoot, plus anything that might trip the production up, or be difficult to do.
The Camera Dept will be given the job of storyboarding the script and working out how to record the footage. The Art Department will have to think of any props or costume pieces that will be needed, where to find them, and how to make best use of the location (Trinity Theatre). The Sound Department will need to look for sound effects that may be needed. The director will also need to work with the actors, who will start rehearsing the movie in preparation for recording next week!

Over five mornings “Shock” students will gain hands-on experience in creating and acting in their own horror movie, as well as in sourcing props, lighting and camera technique, all under the expert eye of filmmaker Sam Marlow. Chill the spines of family and friends when the final cut is shown on Trinity’s screen over Halloween weekend!
