Interested in learning a bit more about what goes on behind the curtain?
“Taking part in the Trinity Backstage Youth Theatre has given me excellent experience across a wide variety of backstage and technical areas. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a number of shows alongside theatre professionals, and it is such a great community to be involved in. It has also helped me go on to study Stage Management at university. I would thoroughly recommend it to all!”
Benedict, Backstage Youth Theatre alumni
Thursday 10 October 4.30pm – 6pm – Puppetry Design and Performance
In this exciting Introduction to Shadow Puppetry workshop, puppet maker Katie will teach you everything you need to know to get started making and performing with your own shadow puppets! Katie is Co-Director for Rust & Stardust Productions and has worked for Little Angel Theatre, Feral Theatre, Atomic Productions, Bright Moon Theatre and Jo Lakin Puppetry making and performing with puppets.
This workshop is designed for beginners, no previous experience is required!
Puppetry is a fantastic way to tell stories in new, imaginative ways and shadow puppetry is considered the oldest form of puppetry in the world. Learn how to design and create you own articulated puppet and performance techniques to bring it to life!
You will also have a chance to meet some of Katie’s puppets and get to ask lots of questions!
Thursday 24 October 4.30pm – 7.30pm Tech Basics Skills Session
Tech basics is designed to be a session to build up the skills of those of you who haven’t done a huge amount of tech before or are perhaps a bit nervous about doing tech. It will be a chance to get hands on with things, ask questions and go through anything you might be unsure of.
Thursday 7 November 7pm – 9pm Tech Intermediate Session
This is for anyone with a reasonable amount of knowledge already and looking to build upon this. We will send those of you who sign up for this an email to see the sorts of things you would like to explore further or if there is anything you are particularly interested in learning about.
Thursday 14 November 4.30pm – 6pm – Set and Costume Design – looking at Wizard of Oz
Using our upcoming show Wizard of Oz as inspiration this will be a chance to see what goes into designing the set and costume for a show, and have a go at designing some set or costumes yourself.
Thursday 21 November 4.30pm – 6pm – Set, Props and Costume Making for Wizard of Oz
With our production of Wizard of Oz coming up soon this is a great chance to get stuck in and help out with making set, props or helping with costumes for the show! Work with our team to paint and create some of the items and backgrounds used in the show and learn about the creative process behind our productions.
Fees & Bursaries
Sessions cost between £15 – £30 depending on the length of the session. We know times are currently financial tough for some families, and don’t want anybody who wants to come to be put off by the price. We have bursaries available via The Elliott Fund for those who need financial support.
