Comedy Club: The Good Ship Comedy (December)
Full Description
The Good Ship Comedy With: Michael Odewale & Stephen Bailey
Athena Kugblenu
Bold, fresh and always bang on point, over the past couple of years Athena has grown into a formidable comedian. Garnering critical acclaim for her first two shows while still somewhat of a newcomer to the industry, Athena has been busy working with the BBC on TV and Radio, as a performer, panellist and writer for shows such as Mock the Week, Breaking the News, Loose Ends and Horrible Histories, as well as becoming a Mum twice over and branching out into podcasting in the last couple of years. She has also supported Daliso Chaponda, Nish Kumar, and Fern Brady on tour, as well as appearing at the Johannesburg International Comedy Festival.
“An intelligent set that managed to be both easily accessible and playful and still say something serious.” Beyond the Joke
“A smart, impassioned comedian…an informed social observer and invested cultural commentator.” The Scotsman
“Good material, sharp presentation…an important voice.” The Times
Pierre Novellie
One of the UK’s finest up-and-coming comedians, Pierre is a correspondent on BBC2’s The Mash Report hosted by Nish Kumar, performed on the most recent series of Stand Up Central on Comedy Central and was the hand-picked support act for Frank Skinner’s recent sold-out West End run.
Born in South Africa, raised in the Isle of Man and with an inexplicably French name, he has an entirely unique world view, and that’s before we get to his in-depth knowledge of Anglo-Saxon history, Izzardian comic flourishes and sharp satirical brain.
An acclaimed live act, Pierre has also supported Hal Cruttenden and Gary Delaney on their national tours and was nominated for Best Club Comic at the 2017 Chortle Awards for two years running. He is, we cannot emphasise enough, a terribly funny, talented and charming comedy bear.
“Dawn of a major talent.” Guardian
“A show packed full of belly laughs…Novellie delivers it all with real astuteness and skill’l.” Metro
