Full Description

A love letter from a young mother to her daughter, the film tells the story of al-Kateab’s life through five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria as she falls in love, gets married and gives birth to Sama, all while cataclysmic conflict rises around her.

Her camera captures incredible stories of loss, laughter and survival as she wrestles with an impossible choice – whether or not to flee the city to protect her daughter’s life, when leaving means abandoning the struggle for freedom for which she has already sacrificed so much.

‘One of the most important films you will ever see in your life’

This event is run in conjunction with two local charities who aim to improve the lives of refugees living in the UK. Tunbridge Wells Welcomes Refugees (TWWR) started in 2016 and  consists of a group of local volunteers who aim to welcome and support refugees arriving in Tunbridge Wells and Migrateful is a charity which trains migrant chefs, over a 12 week course, to teach their native cuisine in cookery classes to the local community.  The course enables the chefs to overcome legal and linguistic barriers and its aims are to help them to integrate into the community and access employment.
