Full Description

The Royal Tunbridge Wells Orpheus Male Voice Choir is delighted to be back performing a wonderful selection of songs from musicals, popular classics and traditional pieces sung with its unmistakable rich harmonies.

Its Musical Director Kent Lee joined the choir in 2018 and his skills and enthusiasm are having a profound effect on the quality of the choir’s sound. During the Covid lockdowns, Kent led choir members in continuing to develop their voices in innovative Zoom rehearsals and the Orpheus is now delighting audiences again with its unique blend of voices. The Bennett Memorial Junior Choir, led by Music Director Lisa Davis, will join them as guest performers, so you can count on a fantastic evening’s entertainment comprising great sounds from various musical genres.

The Orpheus is best known for performing fund-raising concerts for local and national charities and helping individuals and businesses to mark special occasions since its formation over 80 years ago. For several years the Orpheus has been proud to take part in Tunbridge Wells Borough Council’s Service of Remembrance, leading the singing and supporting the local community to honour the fallen and their families.

The Choir has sung at many notable venues including the Millennium Stadium, Buckingham Palace, and Rochester Cathedral; and has undertaken tours to France, Germany and Belgium, in 2018 taking part in the Last Post Ceremony at the Menin Gate in Ypres to mark the Royal British Legion’s GP90 Pilgrimage.

The Orpheus has helped raise significant funds for many good causes and at this concert will be supporting the Tunbridge Wells Dementia Friendly Community.  The choir has been described by MP Greg Clark as “an asset to the town”.  New members are always welcome, whether experienced singers or not; membership includes excellent tuition and coaching.  For more information visit the choir’s website www.rtworpheusmvc.org
