Spoken Word workshop
Recommended for ages 13 – 19. From 10am – 4pm.
After a fantastic workshop with us in April, award-winning writer and performer Maria Ferguson is back due to popular demand. Explore the world of spoken word through writing and performing, and cover topics far and wide from silly debates to important issues. No writing experience necessary – although you’ll have plenty by the end of the day!

Our Youth and Learning team will meet you in the Trinity Theatre foyer at 10am.
Who’s running the day?
The day will be led by Maria Ferguson. Maria Ferguson is a writer and performer from Romford, Essex. She has been a resident artist for both Roundhouse and Battersea Arts Centre, where she has developed and performed exciting new work blending spoken word, theatre and movement. She has performed her poetry extensively across the UK and collaborated with prestigious venues such as The Albany, Bristol Old Vic, Richmix and Southbank Centre, as well as popular spoken word artists Polarbear, Scroobius Pip, John Berkavitch and Kate Tempest.
What do I need to bring?
Please remember to bring a packed lunch and a water bottle. Lunch is not provided. Our Kitchen and Bar will be serving hot and cold food which can be purchased if preferred, but please note it can take some time to prepare. Children will be responsible for any money they bring with them. They will not be allowed to go off site during the day.
Participants should wear loose and comfortable clothing for the day.
How does the day run?
The day runs from 10am – 4pm. There will be breaks, including one for lunch.
Please make sure you / your child signs in and out. If the participant is making their own way home please notify us in the morning, or we will assume that they are being collected.
What if my child has extra requirements?
If the participant has any access requirements (Dyslexia, Autism, ADHD, or a physical disability for example) please also notify us on reply, and we can make sure that any required access arrangements are put in place, in order for them to get full enjoyment of the day.
