Full Description

Sweeney Todd, the musical thriller, is coming to the Trinity stage and we are looking for a talented cast of young people to take on this infamous tale!

For ages 13 – 19

Sweeney Todd, an unjustly exiled barber, returns to nineteenth-century London, seeking vengeance against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his young wife. The road to revenge leads Todd to Mrs. Lovett, a resourceful proprietress of a failing pie shop, above which he opens a new barber practice. Mrs. Lovett’s luck sharply shifts when Todd’s thirst for blood inspires the integration of an ingredient into her meat pies that has the people of London lining up… and the carnage has only just begun!

Sweeney Todd is a bloody, worldwide success since being awarded eight Tony Awards (including Best Musical), for its Broadway premiere. Stephen Sondheim’s and Hugh Wheeler’s (A Little Night Music, Pacific Overtures) tasty, thrilling, theatrical treat has simultaneously shocked, awed and delighted audiences across the world.

Auditionees need to prepare an extract song of their own choosing (not from Les Mis, High School Musical or Sweeney Todd, please) – no longer than 90s.

You can bring sheet music to be sight read, backing tracks (ideally emailed to education@trinitytheatre.net in advance) or sing a cappella.

Auditionees will also need to prepare a song from Sweeney Todd – see this document to see which song for which character.

You can find vocal scores in our Dropbox and use Rehearscore to get the backing tracks.

Auditions will be held in groups and in a low pressure environment.

Audition dates: Sunday 26 May and Monday 27 May
Rehearsals: Monday 29 July – Friday 2 August, 9.30am – 4.30pm and Monday 5 August – Friday 9 August, 9.30am – 4.30pm
Performances: Friday 9 August, 7.30pm and Saturday 10 August, 2pm and 7.30pm

Participation fees for cast members is £295 with a discounted sibling place costing £275. The full balance will be required by Friday 28 June. Price includes two tickets and a cast hoodie.

No one should be unable to take part because of financial constraints. Bursaries from The Elliott Foundation are available for those on low incomes. Please contact education@trinitytheatre.net for more information.
