An award-winning drama starring Olivia Colman in her award-winning role as Queen Anne, and Rachel Weisz and Emma Stone as her warring servants, both desperately vying to be her favourite. Early 18th Century and England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving at court. A frail Queen Anne occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant, Abigail (Stone) arrives at court Lady Sarah is charmed by her and takes her under her wing, but as the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion, resulting in a bitter rivalry between the two women. Directed by Yorgos Lanthimos.
